Speed don't get me high no mo'

I anted to make a castle, I turned off eat drink sleep and turned the speed to one for my dwarves. But for some reason, this hasn't seemed to speed them up at all. I have (SPEED:1) made properly. I'm using the mac port.

Does anyone know what might be wrong?

did you check the raw copy that is inside the save folder of your fortress?
