Gather option to acompany dump, forbid etc
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:15:29 pm »

I think an option that lets you mark an item to be gathered would be a good addition to DF. It would work like dumping and forbidding, you k over an object and mark it for gathering then a dorf hauls it to a relevant stockpile. This would help greatly when your hunter kills something while hauling a carcase back to the fort, or if you need to gather some specific refuse from outside. It would eliminate the annoying problem of having to set refuse collection to outside then wait and hope your dorfs haul the right object in before all the useless crap you dont want.

While a move item option or prioritizing specific hauling tasks might be useful, it seems like it'd be a better idea to fix the outdoor refuse gathering itself.

Bug fixes and a Mark for Priority system for the game's items, tasks and buildings and whatnot, would work far better, in my opinion.

Aye, a priority system sounds much better actually.

While it's probably more important, only way to use it in this case would be to allow outdoor cleaning and that's going to cause trouble if you have more than one hauler.

Say, do burrows offer a workaround here? If one section of a burrow is disconnected from the rest, do dwarves still do labor there? You could allow cleaning with everyone set inside except for the area in which the items you want dumped reside.
