Tough strong agile?
« on: April 07, 2010, 09:04:44 am »

Can we no longer see the current level of toughness/strength/agility of a dwarf?

I know I saw it in the thoughts & preferences screen, but those descriptions didn't seem to change as my dwarves skilled up...

From what i have noticed dwarves have a lot more than the three basic stats that they had in the old version. In their profile screen they have the, what shall i call it, mental abilities such as has a good sense of astetic sensitivity, or some such. I'm not totally sure what these new stats do but I m pretty sure I have seen them go up as my dwarves work more. So far I have counted around 10 of these "new stats" and think how long it would take to increase your stats when its spreadloaded over 3x as many stats (or more).

No real evidence about what I'm saying but it seems that stats gain depend on the job your dwarf is doing. My legendary miner/axelord was tough, strong and agile according to his description while my high master broker raised other stats but none of those 3.

We will probably have to wait for the memory hackers to break out all the stats for us again in a readable, numeric fashion.

But now that we actually have mental stats...I wouldn't be surprised if Toady made it so non-physical labors don't raise physical stats anymore.

I seem to recall him mentioning that he'd make stat gain depend on the skill you're increasing.

It's pretty easy to see when you've got hyper-speed dwarves idling in a small meeting area, shooting their social skills through the roof; their physical stuff doesn't flip out and skyrocket anymore. Similarly, hard physical training or constant combat-skill improvement will see your physical abilities and a couple of the mental ones (Kinesthetic and spatial especially) increase either without or to the detriment of the 'softer' social skills.

Dwarf personality preferences ("Likes to try new things", etc) definitely tie into this, by the way, though I'm not entirely sure to the extent.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I think if you changed the values the descriptions would still read the same per percentile despite the different actual effectiveness.
