DF:31.01 Number of Z levels on Embark

Has anyone investigated reducing the number of Z levels on an embark?

I have a very old machine, and am only getting 30odd FPS on embark, which doesnt bode well.

I am used to trimming the init file to suit, and have cut weather for the moment, but reducing the number of levels would be another way.

I can see in the World gen parameters a number of variables, but it is unclear how they all add up to 100 odd for overall depth.  Before I dive in, has anyone done any investigation?

According to some tests I ran, the number of underground z levels makes no difference. Above ground makes a huge difference if birds are around.

Could you limit both though? i honestly dont need 20 levels and any FPS boost i can get i'll take.

The sky z level limit is in the world gen parameters, should be easy to spot.

Embark at a lower elevation.
