The Tragedy Of Kalandar
« on: April 06, 2010, 05:31:50 pm »

Found carved on a wall.
There once was a city gleaming and tall
Full of beautiful spires
This is the chronicle of its sins and its mighty fall
I needed to write this before I expired

The city of Kalandar was built by the stout and steadfast dwarves
Who where promised bountiful gold
None of them read the ancient lores
Or else this tragedy might not have unfold

Nineteen master masons arrived to build
Ten miners arrived to dig for the stone
Five masters of arms arrived to guard the guild
In those days there was much activity in the construction zone

Soon a great canyon surrounded a stub of land
The master masons got to work at first on the mighty spire
But soon stopped, for they wanted half their gold on demand
And thus the Humans were revealed as lairs

The humans  reacted quickly and enslaved the Guild
They forced the dwarves to toil
And then the great Dwarven leader named Vale was killed.
And his plan for revolution and escape was foiled

Vale was a legendary mason
He used to fight Goblins in the ranges
He had a strong young boy as a Son
Who fought many great dangers

The guild toiled many a yeart
And soon the city of Kalandar was finished
Thus the Dwarves had a great fear
And their hope was greatly diminished

The human seeing their fair city done were pleased
But put the Dwarves to the sword
The dark Gods of Blood and Blade were much appeased
And a raven-haired boy was born to the lord

The Boy was fast and tall
Yet his heart was as cold as steel
And soon the Boy had an army at his beck and call
And out of his father he made dog meal

The city of Kalandar turned from utopia to hell
The new Lord burnt much
And the temples of light fell
And the people where locked in the city like a rabbit in a hutch

Soon the Blood rebellion began
Shields broke, arrows flew and blades clashed
Both sides lost many a man
And the Boy’s crowned head was smashed

Alas how splendid it was
To see the mighty temples rise again
The great city was abuzz
And the granaries were filled with grain

But peace cannot endure the test of time
Soon swords were taken up against brothers
Blood insults were paid back in full
And soon the streets were filled with blood and mourning mothers

Among this turmoil
A General rose to power
But his hold on power was foiled
And his body, by beasts, devoured

The People were trying to heal a mighty wound
When the fanfare sounded
None of them expected that sound to be their doom
As the Dwarven siege mounted

The drawbridge was raised
Arrows where notched
But the Defenders were thoroughly amazed
When the Dwarves left without a single knock

No one heard the sound of pick striking rock
But everyone heard the beastly cries
No one saw what the Dwarves accidentally wrought
But they all saw what came of their own sins and lies

A great set of tentacles killed all who tried to cross the bridge
And venomous pumpkin plants killed all who came by land
Nothing lived in the water filled canyon, not even a midge
But the beasts outside couldn’t pass the wall band

But alas food and drink were low in supply
The Citizens died in numbers great
Requests for food where promptly denied
And finally Kalandar was as clean as a slate

The city became overgrown with the venomous pumpkins
That craved Man’s flesh
It was fill with writhing tentacles that cleaved many of my kin
And devoured them whole and fresh

The great tower soon collapsed
Filling the streets with many bricks
-changing all maps-
Which only the Dwarves of old could fix

Let this be a lesson
For only Death is eternal
Hate boils like a pus filled lesion
And in the souls of Men battle is internal
