Chasming Options
« on: July 28, 2007, 01:02:00 am »

After finding a chasm tile near a waterfall in the underground river, I wen tlooking for the 'chasm' option, but I couldn't find it.  Perhaps if a river chasm tile is found, could said tile enable these chasming options as well? (I assume as I cannot see them and have not reached the chasm, that they are only enabled when I do)

Chasming is changed in the next version so that you can designate a chasm area over any drop you desire, so if you find a hole in the next version, you can just designate parts of it or the entire thing as a "Chasm zone" and then your dwarves can dump their crap down into it.

You need a noble to be able to chasm stuff (I THINK he's the bookkeeper, I'm not sure)

Otherwise its with options> refuse options

"Dwarves ______ bones"
"Dwarves _____ corpses"

You can chasm as soon as you find the CHASM itself, not just a chasm tile near a waterfall going down. You don't need the bookkeeper to chasm, but without the bookkeeper, you are limited to only chasming groups of items. Once you do have the bookkeeper, you can choose specific items to be chasmed.

There's my suggestion - I hate that you cannot choose to chasm individual items without also starting the economy.  I'm terrified of starting the economy, because everyone in my fortress has their own bedroom with a cabinet and coffer, and that's the way I like it.  I consider my porters to be just as important as my metalsmiths, so why should their rooms be so different from one another?

There are just so many economic horror stories that I simply refuse to mint coins.

I thought that as soon as the bookkeeper arrives the economy automatically begins?
