Monsters with fat loot
« on: April 17, 2010, 02:18:46 pm »

So I was playing adventure mode the other day and was tasked by a human warlord to kill an ettin that had been stealing a lot of stuff from the town. His cave was located far out at a glacier and I couldn't see squat because of the fog and the fact that I had arrived there during the night. As I was scouring the fog for an entrance into the cave, I gradually revealed this ridiculous load of loot around and on the slopes of the hill the cave was in.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What made it even more amazing was that he was the only ettin living in the cave and he had gathered all that shit by himself. I found it kind of curious that despite having raided enough stuff to literally carpet his whole damn cave and a vast area outside of it, he only had about twenty or so kills to his name (as opposed to the hydra with a killcount of nine hundred that I capped earlier and that didn't have a lot of anything at its cave). He turned out to be a particularly bad-ass ettin though, as he listed two warlords (one of which was apparrently the father of the guy who tasked me to kill the ettin) and the law-giver of the human civ that sent me to slay him while he was declaring his kills.

Anyone else ran into single monsters with this kind of massive hoarding tendencies?

Yeah, you get these guys quite often actually.  A lot of the humanoid semimegas really like gathering insane quantities of loot during their worldgen years.  If your world history runs for long enough and the critter manages to stay alive, you'll end up with the "carpet effect", like you had there.

I believe the correct spelling is "phat lewtz." Personally, I'm waiting for the day when Toady puts some raid gear in the HFS.

This is Lovebrands, a schist bracelet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of obsidian, and grants +20 Willpower and +20 Endurance. On the item is an image of Lovebrands the schist bracelet in schist.
