Magma pools/pipes/lakes drying out the surrounding area isn't new, at least: it was previously a useful way to get past aquifers.

Unfortunately, the magma sea's deep enough that you probably won't reach it at all if you have an aquifer.

And then what?  Mine the sky? . . .  Actually, that'd be awesome.

Acid rain is blasphemy against Armok, for it adds practicality to covering the sky completely.

so it was raining, and a puppy died. At first I thought it was acid rain, but then I realized that the Trogdolites were attacking me.

So I don't have acid rain.

well I just played a game where I dug to the core of the earth!

Litterally..

I kept digging down and down and down about level -45 I ran into a bit of a hicup cause I got this message.

"You have discovered a vast magma ocean"

and yeah It was... 10-30 levels thick depending on the area... my 4x4 map was held up by a single column that was 10x32 tiles... at teh bottom (20 levels BELOW HFS) was semi molten stone.... darn... couldn't go deeper.... even though I had another 30 levels designated... so did I really hit the bottom at like level -70?

No, I think the cook would be in charge of sugar-coating the cows.

You are a lifesaver! Round and probably in tropical flavors.

People around this forum have been saying that if you're lucky, you can dig past the magma sea.

And then find another one several levels below the first one.

And another one several levels below that.

If you still find a way to get below that...you might find the new Hidden Fun Stuff.

Ain't anything easier than that, btw. When you find the ocean, strip a wide chunk of it open. Then reroute water from the top caverns onto that. After a lot of steam and caveins, you'll have a safe obsidian column through the magma.

It's rained several times for me and I haven't yet encountered any dwarves with their skin melting off.

Does the magma ocean refill after pumping it out?

erm... Terminator... don't think you found the HFS then >_> as far as I can see, HFS is impossible to tunnel through, and when you find it, nearly impossible to survive.

Yea, I'm in temperate mountains/forest. All my dwarves except one and all the livestock just somehow lost their entire upper bodies to a rainstorm in midsummer....wtf?
