So... I just generated a new world...
« on: April 04, 2010, 03:03:26 am »

So I just generated a new world for fortress fun and adventure fun when my fortress inevitably falls... However I seem to have had a very minor setback.

Every sentient race on my planet is now extinct.

I generated 1000 titans and 1000 types of demons and 1600 caves... apparently that was enough bad stuff to kill every human, dwarf, goblin, elf and kobold. If I do go that crazy with demons and titans I would have to start in Year 2 to ensure that there's someone still alive to trade/siege/anything.

Just a fun little note for anyone interesting in embarking in a world with no help or enemies.

Yea, a lot of people have noted that ALL elves have died by the end of world gen. This is because they don't have structures to hide inside while mega beasts shred there military.

I stop world gen at about 200 years. Early enough that a few mega beasts are still below ground, some have found there way up, some are even worshiped by civilizations, while each of the races has spread out enough to be accessible.

Hi!

That is odd. I generated three worlds in the new version, and without problems, each world has all races available, including elves. I didn't have that many nasties, though.

However, it is worthwhile to note that elves are among the most inflexible (or at least in the 40d versions, they were the least flexible) - while you have dwarven forest retreats, you never see elven towns or dark fortresses. So, if you want to have elves around, you have to give them a lot of forests where to build their retreats - otherwise they will not grow to large enough numbers to withstand the ages (in 40d dwarves and humans would then simply wipe them off the map).

After playing around with it some more, I noticed that it seems to have more to do with the amount of caves than the number of titans and demons. I'm assuming nasty stuff is coming out of the caves and murdering the world.
