Dwarves won't plant above ground, even irrigated (DF2010)
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:20:37 pm »

Anyone else having problems with this? I finally got a subterranean farm going by using a screw pump for irrigation, but my 5x5 above-ground field lay fallow. (Turns out I had no wild strawberry seeds, despite being able to plant them.) I went ahead and irrigated the area with another screw pump, and planted wild strawberry and prickle berries, but my dwarves won't plant any seeds- they'll only use the subterranean farm.

I have a sinking feeling that food is going to be a problem for a while in this build.

Didn't see this problem myself.

Are you planting in the right biome, just like in the last version?  Last version, I believe, plants wouldn't grow on top of a mountain, even if you irrigated it...you'd want to try and grow them on a biome that supports them, like something that isn't a mountain.

Oh, a biomass/24 hour solar facility. How green!

Nevermind. They're planting... they just took a long time to start.

Also, you can assign crops for which you have no seeds (only plants.)
