Artifacts are so much more interesting now. I love it.

It would be helpful if you posted an example.

Sorry. I don't have it handy anymore, I'll try to remember though. I got an artifact depicting a named titan killing a dwarf. I just found it interesting due to the historical link, rather than just a generic artifact menacing with spikes of fluffy bunny and spider silk.

Artifacts depicted historical events before the new version...

Really? I never got one before, and I had dozens of forts and tons of artifacts. Odd...oh well, I still like it. :p

It's probably that because history tends to last longer, there are more historical events, meaning that there is a higher chance they will be selected for depiction in an artifact.

In older versions, you could only see what was depicted in art by coming back to visit it in adventurer mode.  Now you can see it (by default) in dwarf mode as well.

Artifacts depicted historical events before the new version..
It is much more likely that you simply did not have the relevant init flags set to display the relevant history.  Most, if not all, artifacts have always had some historical link. Actually, most decorations have a link to the past.

Yeah... and it's better than an artifact with 2 engravings of itself and 2 more of cheese and/or random dwarves. Imagine something like planepacked, but with the history of everything that happened in the last 1000 years instead of all the random and self-referencing carp.

It did, but there was not that much history to reference in the first place. 200, 300 years max. ...and I got the feeling that there are generally more references to worldgen history now - and less about stuff happening in your fort. That's not proven in any way, just what I seem to observe.
