Designating in 3D

Designating 150-z high 3x1 d-i (up/down staircase) level-by-level is tedious.
Nuff said.

Position cursor where you want staircase
Hold down left mouse button
Press > or < (don't let go of mouse)
...
Profit!

It's not quite as fast, but you only need to do it three times for a 3X1 staircase.

True, but at a certain velocity the resulting explosion expels invader-bits at fatal speeds. You don't want to be dropping trogdolyte-shaped shrapnel bombs into your boneworks.
Only in Dwarf Fortress...

But what about us loyalists who only ever use the keyboard? *shuns mouse*

Eh? I did not know you can do that. Still this is not same as true 3d designations.

Multi-z-level designations are a common suggestion:
More posts (no spamming of course!) with demands of same thing, higher chance that Toady at last do something about it.

Nope.  If you want to convince Toady that something's popular, vote for it on Eternal Suggestion Voting (linked above).  Posting redundant threads in Suggestions is just a waste of time for all involved.  Also, didn't you see this at the top of the forum?

I've been getting around this by using AutoHotkey to make a keyboard shortcut for a 10 z-level 4x4 staircase. It's pretty easy to make your own scripts and is way way faster then doing the designations by hand.

I am sorry for that.
