Activating my dorfs to train or do anything!
« on: April 03, 2010, 11:38:49 am »

Man, the new military screen is incredible, but bugger me if it isn't a nightmare trying to figure it out!

So, after a few false starts, I figured out how I was supposed to work assigning specific dorfs to my squad.  Done.  Then I assigned what weapon they should fight with.  Done.  I then went into their schedule and started setting them up to train constantly... I think I got it right... scrolled through "o" on each month until I got to "train", then greened out each dorf.

But the screen shows them as always inactive, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to activate them so they get off their hairy dorf butts and get on with it!

The schedules screen has an "inactive" thing, but pressing that just scrolls through whether they are in or out of uniform when inactive...

HELP!

To change their schedule click "s" at the main menu to get into the squad menu then select your squad and then press "t" to rotate between schedules. Be warned getting them to stop training have habit of bugging out and they might get stuck doing training drills forever.

Did you assign the squad to a barracks?  After you've designated a room as a barracks, you have to target the item you used, highlight the squad, and hit "t" to assign them to that room to train.

Of course, I've done that and my dwarves STILL won't activate, so who knows whether it'll help or not.  But it's necessary, if not sufficient.
