Dual-Wielding?

So, currently my militia commander has a spear in her left and right hand, which is kick-ass. Did this happen at all last version, or is this a new addition?

I seem to remember one of my dwarves dual wielding swords, and I was only around for the last version, so I don't think so.

In the last version I read that they just use the one, and keep the other one in case the first one gets lost.

How you test that, I'm not sure.

I gave a dwarf two different types of short swords in arena, he only used the first one.

There is no dual wielding in DF. That is a normal equipment bug, which somehow still never got fixed.
