Well, you have the new water system and all, I figure fountains would be a logical step.

What happened to this idea, are fountains going in? I think they'd be a really nice addition, generating not just happy thoughts, but making the air better too. Or not, given that caves tend to be kinda soggy.

Easy enough, you need:
1. either a water source with constant pressure, or a water source and some sort of pump/bucket and chain system.
2. Somewhere for the water to go.

The ultimate goal would be beer fountains, of course.

Since flow mechanics are in, you could make a beer bong! Fountain though. hmm.

That would probably be a bad idea though, it would aerate the beer and all you end up with is a dining room covered in foam! Wine would work however.

What about beer taps? Kegs work that way because you pressurize them with a pump but i have no idea how the taps at the bar work.

I think taps just hook on to a keg somewhere in the back.

Still others whispered that they just built a freaking huge keg and died of alcohol poisoning when it spilled out and flooded the whole fortress. What really happened to Dumatthorthith? Only you can discover the truth.

We can make fountains. Designs included:

code:

Floor -1   Floor 0  Floor +1
######### ###D#D### ######### # Wall
######### #...U...# ######### _ Channel
######### #.U...U.# ######### ~ Liquid
####~#### D..#_#..D ####_#### & Pump inlet
###~&~### #U._o_.U# ###_$_### $ Pump outlet
####~#### D..#_#..D ####_#### o Pipe
######### #.U...U.# ######### U Statue

While may seem really cool, this is likely to cause a nice drop in your fps.

I currently have the central part of my fort with 5 waterfalls that cascade onto rocks, then into channels below them, then into a central "evaporation chamber" to make the water disappear. My dwarves are always being "comforted by a lovely waterfall."

This made me think of the geyser thread. Combination:

code:

side
###########
#~~~~~~~~##
#~~~~~~~~##
#~~~~~~~~##   ~
#~~~~~~~~##   ~
###~#####$$# #~# #
###~######___#~# #
###~~~~~X~~~~~~###
##################

#=wall
~=water
_=floor only
$=screw pump

Yeah I kinda gave up on my designs when it got to the screw pump, since I'm not entirely sure how they work yet. But basically a fountain of water, with channels around the outlet flowing it back to pumps to put it back into the water storage basin, where it resumes it's fountaining.

Hella old bump, but yeah, doing a fountain should definitely be possible even without a fancy dedicated building.

Obviously, the smallest fountian would be a 3x3, being fed from directly above.
Having a 360 degree fountain being fed from below would be complex, but possible.

And then, using the 'i'nteractivity zones, you could designate the water return channel as a water source. Hooking the system up to a perpetual motion machine would also be useful for continually cycling the water, or removing used water from the system so it doesn't flood.
