I know its nothing specia but...
« on: December 09, 2007, 11:40:00 am »

one of my engravers in my epic fort has decided to carve out a series of pictures depicting some guys life... possibly his. His personality tells me that he's a traditionalist with strong urges and short term satisfaction. His first picture was a dwarf and a cage. the dwarf was raising the cage. The next two were of a dwarf being surround by other dwarves. The one after that was the dwarf being refused by the surrounding dwarfs and him/her feeling dejected. The one after that was a dwarf still surrounded by other dwarfs making plaintive gestures... what are you guys takes on this? i find it really interesting. possibly him expressing his feelings through pictures? or is this to much detail for DF?

I fail to see the connection between his personality and the images he carved.

EDIT:
Do you have a jail?

Sounds like he's telling the tale of a dwarf that was perhaps the first to be put in prison?

Oh, I see. A maker of cages, a blacksmith or carpenter or something, created a wonderful cage once. However, he was arrested and imprisoned in his own cage.

Your engraver writes of dwarven justice.

If you visit your fortress in adventure mode, you can actually see which dwarves the engravings are about. Ones of a dwarf surrounded by other dwarves relate to dwarves being given noble positions or joining the fortress or royal guard - unless he's making plaintive gestures, in which case it's a dwarf leaving a noble position or the fortress or royal guard. (Among the ones I've seen, anyway.)

Engravers will always engrave images about what happened in your fortress. It's like an history lesson for future generation.

If you lose your fortress and come back as an adventurer, you'll be able to see a lot more details such as the name of the dwarf, the reason of the engraving and what happened.

Once you've discovered it with an adventurer, you can go read them again in the "Legends" menu.

This is the dwarven way.  A dining room should be a somber place, full of remembrances of tragedies and grievances, and set with the sarcophagi of ancestors who died horrible, horrible deaths.

And grim stone statues starring over their shoulders and from across the table.

Hey, did that one just move... no, it's just my imagination.

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.
