goblin forts?

if i start on an area with a goblin fort, and i wipe out all the goblins, do they respawn at the fort or does it stay empty forever.

They stay dead. The lot's yours.

In dwarf mode at least, iuno about adventure mode.

Also they start friendly if you embark on the tower.

Only in dwarven culture is alcohol poisoning a death worthed investigating, while being impaled through several toes, a eye, and a thumb from a spiraling water[3] is not.  Because everyone knows, the only way a dwarf could get alcohol poisoning is if someone put poison into the alcohol.

Also, due to a bug with Kill orders, you may not seize the tower by force. You may find other inventive ways.

I prefer to take a couple of adventurers into a Dark Fortress, make the corridors run red with goblin blood (or as more often the case, elf/human/dwarf blood since goblins seem to become an endangered minority in their own civs), and *then* embark on it. Fun part is building a whole series of bridges to connect the towers at different levels.
