First migration I noticed a big pile of armor and a war hammer on the ground at the point where the immigrants came onto the map. One of my immigrants was a peasant with novice armor using and a novice hammer wielder . As soon as I put her into a squad with metal armor enabled she immediately picked up all of the armor and the hammer. Not too big of a problem since it's pretty easy to catch.

I've seen that too.  An immigrant woodcutter I had dropped his axe the second he arrived.  He was happy to retrieve it and get to work, though, as soon as I enabled his woodcutting labour.
