live dwarf brain visualization
« on: March 26, 2010, 12:18:54 am »

i would like to be able to see inside the head of my dwarfs, to see why they choose to do somthing instead of somthign else, how they are feeling at that exact moment etc (originally i was gonna just ask for a way to see why an specific job isn't being done, but i think this would be much more useful, hm, actually, i still want to be able to see why an specific job appears to be ignored by the dwarfs.....)

Well, this is already possible. Look at the profile of the dwarf, it tells you how they're feeling. Also, if you turn on the option to notify you about all job cancellations it would tell you why they stopped that job.

But that is over a period of time, and doesn't given an insight on the thought process of the dwarfs. And job cancellation reason can't be called to specific jobs, nor does it enlighten why one job seems to have more priority than another.♠

edit:erm, how the fuck did that clubs get in my text?! 0.o

The next version has proper hospitals, you can probably perform brain surgery then. I want to know, too :D .

We don't need magma, a war hammer will do.

For one thing, I need to know why they seem to get to the most vital jobs last, especially if it's something that must be done quickly, such as hurriedly building a door before the water floods the entire fortress.

Basicly it means you need to have a few specialist dwarves with all their hauling/not-their-job tasks turned off.

Basicly it means you need to have a few specialist dwarves with all their hauling/not-their-job tasks turned off, and they will still go to deconstruct a building, cage/release large animal or bring item to depot...

Fixed.

Dwarves don't choose jobs, jobs choose dwarves.  You can see which job has top priority for the next available dwarf if you press [j] to get to the jobs screen.  Sometimes making your dwarves do one job involves deactivating the jobs that are higher priority.

You don't need to read each individual decision, you can just view the personality and figure out what traits make dwarves do what.

Lazy artist seems to be a common combination.
