I modded Cinnabar to be used with other ores, increasing the bars from ore by 25%. It doesn't work on platinum or iron though, and the quicksilver has to use iron as a container. It helps limit Iron a bit, and helps make the most of rare ores.

Tried to mod it. Now I'm waiting for next release, because in 40d you cannot obtain liquid in smelter. Or you could, but it would be immediately spilled. For now I have Frozen mercury with melting temp equal to dwarfs body temp and [BRITTLE].

Hence why I used Iron: as the only common non-amalgamating metal, it is combined with Cinnabar to form 'Iron-Cased Quicksilver'. Just have to watch out for moody dwarves making items out of it.
