Create Water?

I've got a fortress I really like a lot, is there a way to create water on a currently existing fortress?

No.  The best I've managed so far is a reaction that creates water spatters, like what you would find in a bucket of water.  Unfortunately, you can't create the water IN a bucket until we get custom workshops in the next release.

Also, obviously, magma avalanches and tsunamis weren't exactly a contingency covered in the mission briefing.
I can assure you that Ardentdikes is not the first fortress to be flooded with magma. What's unusual is that we actually meant to flood it with magma.

The only ways to get water are river, stream, ocean, lake, murky pool, ice, underground river, underground pool, and aquifer.  Otherwise, no water.

No sort of dwarf manager program to do it?

Use the Gibbed.DwarfFortress.Tweak.exe utility.  It has a tile edit and you can put water or magma anywhere you like.

Or you could wait until it rains, then save, exit, and turn weather off in init.txt. It'll keep raining forever.

Only works on base 40d on back. Has anyone done the offsets for d16?

... the save files for 40d## are the same as the 40d saves, so you can load the save in 40d, do whatever you like, save, then transfer the save back to 40d##.

That's the best you're going to get for now. IIRC, the hackers that usually find offsets don't want to waste time finding the offsets because the next major version is so close to release.

That won't neccessarily work, actually, since water from rain only accumulates on Murky Pool tiles.

IF your map had Murky Pools to start, and you haven't built anything on/over themverify, though, they will refill.

Yes, but only if you get rain. And if the weather is not hot or scorching, as the water will evaporate almost instantly.

Creating water (or magma for that matter) is weird using tweak: It creates liquid "in stasis", so you can create a free hanging sheet of water or magma in the air, or turn any tile to liquid, but it will only flow if (I think, it needs !!Science!! experiments) it comes in contact with already flowing water, or you construct something near it. I found that building something like a bridge or floodgate connected to a lever, then place the liquid so that it touches the construction, then pulling the lever brings the liquid "to life".

That "for any tile" module for tweak is INSANELY powerful if you look into what you can do with it.

In the past I modified microcline to be an aquifer stone to get around a lack of water on a map.

One trick to doing this is that, if you add the aquifer tag to a stone, any already revealed stone will remain dry, and only newly uncovered stone will be aquifer, and when you remove the tag the aquifer stone will remain wet, while new stone is dry.  So  you can set the aquifer tag and dig into some microcline to get a re-filling reservoir, then save out and remove the tag and any further digging will only reveal dry stone.

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.

You can use Dtil's Tile Edit utility and turn an uncovered square (or many) into water tables / aquifers. Then when you dig it out it'll spew forth water as usual.

I find the best way to add water is to dig a cistern with a two-tile pillar in the middle, then use Dtil to mark one tile as an aquifer and dig out the other. That usually gets the water flowing. For extra entertainment, embark in a scorching location, create the water fountain on the open surface, and see how far the water can reach before evaporating. If the area is hot enough (and large enough), you can actually get an equilibrium.
