embark search or can you...
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:53:25 pm »

I'm looking to build a fort on a Major river. With one catch... it has to be waterfalling, then I'm going to dam it and call it dwarfhoover.

Do major rivers ever waterfall?

Worst case scenario, you can always make an artificial one from a major river.
Mind you I have no idea how one would go about it, I figure it would be quite tricky.. I have trouble with streams still.

They waterfall all the time. To find one, follow a major river in the Elevation Changes mode, and look for a sudden, abrupt, and large jump in the elevation change. Should be a waterfall. Same goes for any river, bar brooks. Of course, you still have to watch out for adverse conditions (i.e. aquifers) so it might take a few worlds for a good site.

They do exist, especially where the elevation changes, but it might be easier and more interesting to drop it with dwarf sweat. Dam up the river, channel the river bed down a level or ten and enjoy the ecstatic slow-motion dorfs.
