A cannon fodder squad named "The Bears of Punching", second only to the name "The Eternal Disembowelment", which leads me to believe that they actualy suck.

If it takes an eternity to disembowel someone you don't deserve to be a member of a Dwarven Military.

no,no,no, they mean they will disembowel youfor eternity.

I'd much rather have a entire army of sub-parly disemboweled Goblin invaders and my fortress safe than a few Goblins with a very proffessionaly done disembowelment while my fortress burns.

Is there any way to have the game display the translated names by default?  Edit: Not necessarily the squad names but like the dwarf names and the fortress names.

Every major fort, I end up with a squad called "The Virginal Racks." It never fails.


Also the guy who leads the one in my current fort wields an artifact uranium warhammer. Too bad the save won't be compatible with the upcoming version with the new combat and materials system.

So, I'm currently playing in a succession game. Earlier in the game, the girlfriend (recently started dating) of the guy who started the fort decided she wanted her avatar and his to get hitched. So she drafted them both, put them in the same squad, and stationed them in a swimming pool.

Their squad was called "The Rough Blankets."

Shortly after they became Lovers in-game, his avatar (who was Mayor at the time) mandated the construction of 2 rings.

currently i have a squad of marksmen named the hails of metal and a sword squad unimaginatively called the amazing swords. in a previous fort my entire military was two enormous wrestling squads named the Constructive Intensity and the Constructive Impunity.

One of my squads in the new fort is named The barricaded Deeps, sounds right as thats what my fort will end up being. Another one is The Papers of Flickering sounds very intimidating.

The Blockaded Visions.

It consists of dwarves who were pointed to the crossbow stack after failing to go through basic training without spinal damage. I'm waiting for enough eye injuries to repurpose it.

Wow, I don't normally pay any attention to my squad names as I always have one-dwarf squads, but on my current fortress I have:
The Rare Armors  (fair enough, he has five different steel armour sections decorated with unique materials),
The Cradled Sabres  (he's using a bronze scimitar),
The Mechanical Limbs  (um...),
The Beards of Iron  (actually he's all in steel but has an iron war hammer),
The Modesty of Syrups (she's a completely naked recruit),
The Creative Spines (has nervous system injuries),
The Bald Bodices (!!!),
The Esteemed Cudgels (unfortunately a sworddwarf but still a pretty good name),
The Armoured Reputations (has my highest kill list),
as well as The Splattered Helms, The Gleeful Helms and The Helmed Workers.
