"Sea Adventure" (boat) mode
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:40:08 am »

I'm sorry if this was already posted, I didn't see it in the search though.

It might be lots of unnecessary work, I think it would be great if once boats and other watercraft and some other development goals were implemented, there would be a mode to play as an adventurer/raider party from a boat. I mean, it is a bit like fortress mode, except that you had control of a small party of crew members (about 5-20). You could assume control
of one member during combat, and you could attack towns near the ocean or lead a raiding party via a modified travel map. The ship did not actually move much outside of travel, and ship-to-ship combat is just your boat and another boat held together with grapples. The ship was like a wooden or light metal construction and basic furniture (and 1 or 2 light rotating siege weapons, armories, and cages for your prisoners or something) could be placed on the ship. Hope this won't be too hard to implement.

Doesn't seem too hard, just basically spawns your boat when you run across an enemy boat, and puts you into a fortress like mode for commanding, and adventure mode for fighting. However, I would like to see customizable boats, most likely when you're docked you can have some workers build extra things onto the boat, but have parameters they things have to follow, to prevent big box boats.

There should be a sub-forum on boats.

Why wouldn't boats just be a feature of the regular adventure mode? It's starving for things to do and there seems to be no reason you shouldn't be able to just recruit a crew and do exactly this

Agree with Pilsu, this should just be a feature of Adventure mode. Get your hands on some cash, buy a Longboat, hire a crew, and go raiding and pillaging Elven villages along coastlines or rivers;D!

I think that this mode should be implemented once adventure mode and fortress mode are merged. In game, you can build a boat for war, and then put people on it and sail it down a river to bombard the elves.

Or try FUBAR! The best chocolate bar ever!
And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.

Magic to make stones float would be awesome. You could create dwarven stone ships (think of the Black Arcs from Warhammer)...

Couldn't you theoretically do that already, by hollowing out the stones or making sheets out of them? Steel isn't exactly the lightest of materials either, but tankers, cruise liners and carriers certainly float.
