Fine, abandon the Aussies to our fates in favor of an island who's beaches aren't even all that great.

We'll be fine. We have the desert.

Don't get me wrong Jack, if I could I'd build a machine that could pull all of Australia out of the ocean, and hold it a hundred feet above the water so that the wave would just pass underneath.

EDIT: What the heck did I just say?

Without working plate tectonics, if I recall correctly, the planet's crust would contract, and we would likely be buried under quite a bit of water. Though I may be remembering this completely wrong. If I am not wrong though, earthquakes are just a necessary evil for breathing air at the moment.

With Australia under my control I can dump the world deadliest creatures anywhere in the world! I will also have access to the best beaches in the world, in the skies! Ahahahaha!

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

To answer Josh, yes, they have dormant volcanoes to hide on top of. I think a few are extinct, and some are active.

Australia has a Tsunami warning up and down the east-coast, from Gladstone to Tasmania. No plans to evacuate coastal communities.

I live 30seconds from the beach, in a 1 story house :(

That's just the coastline receding to fuel the 200 foot wall of water that's going to aggressively hump Australia.

Um, yeah.  If the water's being sucked away, that's your cue to run for high ground.

I can't actually see the beach from my house, there's still more houses between me and the beach.

No kidding. Has anyone ever watched Deep Impact? That is a good example of what to look out for when a huge wave is coming.

Yes and now I'm ANGRY! because there was a roadblock preventing me from going home almost three hours after the thing was supposed to happen and didn't.
