I didn't know you could do that...
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:34:22 am »

Alright, here's the story, and I'll try to get screencaps the next time it happens.
A dwarf was struck with a broken leg, and was bedridden. So a dwarf went to get her a bucket of water. She gave her the water...then went to the food stockpile and dropped off a stack of five waters. Which were then promptly consumed.
What?

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.

I've had stacks of waters before, but normally it turns into a stack of stagnant waters before it's been consumed. Actually I didn't think waters were consumed. Normally I dump them into magma once I realise they're there (or at least I designate them for dumping, no idea if it gets done).

They didn't get consumed - they got cleaned up.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

The game currently has placeholder fluid modeling. "Water" is a stone, which forms when you dig through ice walls. "Water" is also a fluid that fills up to 7/7 and drowns anything alive that lacks either the [AQUATIC] or [AMPHIBIOUS] tag (or somesuch, not a modder myself). "Water" is also a waste material formed either when the first "Water" goes into an area above the dwarf freezing temperature or when a dwarf bringing water to either a pond or a wounded dwarf stops because he got hungry/thirsty/tired/bored/scared/hammered/etc and drops a full bucket.

Water 1 is a good building material, so long as you build it before it's exposed to above-freezing temperature. Water 2 is what you normally use for wells, wounded, drowning, muddying, and obsidian casting. Water 3 is cleaned up by dwarves with the Cleaning labor enabled. Unfortunately, Toady hasn't gotten around to better fluid modeling, maybe later.

It's very fortunate that Abbot and Costello didn't play DF...

About cleaning: It's apparently one of the lowest priorities your dwarves can have (as evidenced by the wallowing in their own vomit, blood, and mud... possibly while naked, or just severely tattered clothing).  If you want stuff cleaned, disable all other labors first, then re-enable them again when they've gotten that done.

Now I just need one hypochondriac dwarf to run around trying to clean everything up, before the fortress drives him completely barking mad.

I am now imagining a dwarven version of the janitor from Scrubs.

We are all doomed.

Q: What do you get when you take 100 clear glass windows, 1000 silver bars, 6700 gold bars, and 18,000 marble blocks?

A: A very large wall.

I think cleaning is already in the incoming version.  Soap will be used.

TvTropes is a janitor?
Hmm... Almighty janitor is a trope though.

"Look, all I want to know is the name of the guy in the water."
"What."
"Who's in the water?"
"No, Who's over in the water tower, building the next floor! What is the one drowning!"
