Civiliaztion 3 Conquests: Succession Game: TAM MOD
« on: March 27, 2010, 03:46:52 pm »

I've been wanting to run a succession game of this so I figured I'd query for interest.  Additionally, non-players can also request named units community style cause Civ 3 lets us do it and units are plentiful.

Now about the mod..

We will be playing on the extremely large map which is very fun but frankly to arduous for me to play on my own due to sheer scale.  TAM rebalanced pretty much everything in the game with a completely different tech tree, units, and resources.  The large map also has a huge number of civs so we can expect this to remain interesting as the game progresses.

So first question is who want's to play? I'm probably going to take the first 5-6 people to request in order to keep things fluid.  But feel free to tag on after as dropouts are quite possible.

The second question is what civ will we play as..

That's our civ list.  Note that the game will have 31 civs total on a 140x140 map.

You're joking. Why would we NOT want to be the Huns?

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Well that's definitely an option, I've not tried it as them before.  My fondest memory of the mod is my army of 350 camel riders when I was playing as the Imazighen.  Interestingly while they allowed me to basically run over all of N Africa and the middle east they broke down on my invasion of Europe as they lost their speed advantage in the widespread forests.  So I can confirm that terrain matters in this.

Romans, just because. Also, I'd like to be some kind of warrior.

Actually I have done a game as the Romans before.  I'd evaluate them as a decent pic although they start with less than optimal room for expansion.  I ended up with extremely early wars with my N. neighbor which are pretty much required to keep them from out pacing you.  I also had to war off some colonies others landed in S. Italy early on.  But they are in the center of everything so it's an interesting game.

I'd note as well that settlers are much harder to build in this so early war can be a good option in general.

The only group I'd call peaceful builder is Saba, who get left alone in the Yeman/Oman area with other civs unwilling to send in settlers as the close neighbors have plenty of their own land to exploit.
