Animal Training (Mining Moles)
« on: November 22, 2007, 05:15:00 pm »

I was thinking that the ability to train creatures to do some of the tasks that dwarves normally do would be an interesting addition. Examples would be training Groundhogs to dig for you through sand and loam, Giant Moles that can dig through rock and training Horses to haul items.

Thoughts?

Anything that makes pets do more than take up space before their slaughtering is good in my book.

Oh yeah, that would be sweet. Plus trainers would have more to do then just train dogs.

Imagine: trained attack carp!

Other Examples:

Rhesus Macaques that gather food (or steal things for you instead of from you)
Giant Cave Spiders that defend your fortress from intruders
Bears that dance (for the amusement of your Dwarves)

If I recall correctly, using animals for power is planned.

Giant digging moles is a fantastic idea.  As is dancing bears.  Some of the other suggestions sound fun, but don't strike me as being very dwarven.  On that note, I suggest songbats, for amusement.

Now that I think about it this would probably also involve training mounts so the horses can actually be ridden. And of course, there is the Ultimate Dwarven Weapon:

I think we've discussed using horses and the like to haul large items like logs.
