Download Count?

I'm always surprised at how few letters it takes to get Dwarf Fortress to appear in the suggestion list on Google (dw).  Which got me wondering, how many people actually play Dwarf Fortress?  I don't know much about computers, but how hard would it be to have a counter that would tell how many times the new version is downloaded?  Either that (which would probably be inaccurate because of mirrors and multiple downloads), or a number of the people registered on this forum would be pretty cool.

I believe that the active gamers would be in the 1,000's for sure.

You do realize google adjusts suggestions based on your previous searches, right?

Funny, I'm on a library computer right now and 'dwa' got me Dwarf Fortress for the 3rd result.

Which makes me also wonder, how many people play?

Unless my Physics teacher is secretly a df fan, I got df in the suggestions after just dw again on a classroom computer.  And I wasn't signed into my gmail account, either.

make html page with contact details.
search DW etc tags and click it(Gotta find it first i guess...lots of keywords!)
do over and over and over

maybe some other people will see it and you can setup a lan party?
