I just caught a named cougar in a cage trap.   It had been bothering my dwarves for a while and killed a miller, so that was a happy occasion.

But that made me realize that if I hadn't been watching it, I might not have noticed.  Catching a named creature is generally a big deal -- at least as much as it getting struck down, which already gets a message -- so maybe there should be a message when it happens?

I agree. When you catch a snacher or a thief you have not seen yet it has an appropraite message. Something like that would be nice.
