Is this a bug in the DF 40d17 SDL/OpenGL version?
« on: February 11, 2010, 03:18:15 pm »

I'm trying to link a Lever to my newly-constructed Drawbridge.

I have a Drawbridge:

I have spare Mechanisms in stockpile:

I have a lever... but when I try to link them with q-a-b, I get an error message:

Am I doing something wrong? Is this a known bug in the 40d17 version?

First thing that comes to mind for me is: have you already linked that lever to the bridge?

Anyhow, I am going to try and replicate your situation right now so we will see...

Known bug in D17.  Levers can't be linked to bridges.

No. The lever was freshly constructed while I watched.

Thank you. That explains it.

In my present case, I can always disassemble the bridge, move it westward one tile (I conveniently left a one-tile glacis between my Moat and my wall) and block the entrance with lever-controlled floodgates or vertical bars.

It will be nice to see this fixed, though.

Are you pressing "b" to select a bridge to link, or are you using +/- to highlight it in the list of available tasks?
If the former, 40d17 has the "b" key bound to both "bridge" and "floor bars", so it's actually trying to link it to floor bars.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Fixed. I went into the interface.txt file and changed :

[BIND:HOTKEY_TRAP_BARS_FLOOR:REPEAT_NOT]
[KEY:b]

To :

[BIND:HOTKEY_TRAP_BARS_FLOOR:REPEAT_NOT]
[KEY:F]

Tested it, and it now works perfectly... Bridge is bound to b and Floor Bars are bound to F.
