Is there a mod that will allow me to build to the map's edge or at least closer?  I'm treating DF more like a Lego land and not being able to put up walls closer to the edge is screwing up my work.  Apparently roads and floors can go to the edge but walls can't be any closer that 5 squares or so.

You can use raised bridges to act as walls.  Its not perfect, but it does the job usually

You can carve stuff out of rock.  You can actually turn the very last tile on the map edge into into a fortification, although you can do little else with it I think.

 Meaning that in order to complete your construction you need to use dwarven cement.

 That's obsidian.

 Mixing water and magma will cause the water (or magma, whichever was placed in first) to solidify and become fully workable obsidian.

 Also, questions like this normally go in gameplay questions, rather than general discussion. As there isn't much to discuss, but there's a lot of currently existing gameplay involved.  : )
