would you like a slice of one humped camel cheese or two humped camel cheese on that elf burger?

I think you can only melt glaciers with magma.

Its hard at first, but it works.

You just have to pump magma into a chamber that has ice above it. This will cause the ice to melt and make water.

make sure the chamber is stone or else all the magma will turn into obsidian.

Be sure to have temperature on, otherwise magma is just slow moving water for the game.

In theory it could be possible to embark on a glacier that melts during summer, but I'm not sure this happens at all during normal world gen.

I have heard of it happening for someone with a very modded version, though I'm not sure how it worked.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

From what I've observed, glaciers seem to have a sort of special case when it comes to temperature - just as cold weather can never make an ocean freeze, warm weather also seems to be unable to melt a glacier. I took an Adventurer to a glacier that only claimed to be "cool", meaning it should have been warm enough to thaw, yet the only time I ever saw water was at the very edge of the biome where some ice ramps had apparently glitched and melted.

Of course, magma is 100% capable of melting glaciers in Fortress mode.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

lies. I built an epic fort in dwarf mode that melted around my Adventurer as he walked through it.

It was cool and all, but all those engravings - gone! :(

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
