I've hired myself a Goblin Crossbowman, and he's been with me for quite some time (along with a Goblin Hammerman that has lost his eye while fighting a harpy).

I only just noticed something peculiar..
The Crossbowman has got at least six pages filled with amulets, crowns, earrings and other similar items that he's wearing. I checked the hammerman, and he didn't even have a fraction of that amount of decorative items on him.

Is this a bug or a very rich Goblin?

They get an amulet or crown or whatever for every kill they've made. You can get some people absolutely covered in the stuff.

The same works for your adventurer after retiring I believe, get 10 wolf kills, retire, and then play again with 10 wolf bone/leather items.

Not entirely sure how it works, but this can be common.

He may have been an adventurer before you got him, or, maybe he recieved those items after. 

Either way, once he has enough, kill him and sell his stuff!  Yay!  Stuff!

It's a she, and with the amount of crap that she's carrying, I could perhaps even buy full masterfully crafted steel items.

Although nobody sells them, and my adventurer can't wear them.
She's became useless, along with my other companion.
(She because of losing her weapon, the other because of now having lost the other eye as well.)

They're still effective meat shields.
