More automatic jobs
« on: April 07, 2007, 03:36:00 am »

If this hasn't been done already, I'd like to see more jobs made automatic, like how butcher and tanning are currently.

These jobs: Render fat (nothing else to do with it), Prepare a raw fish (there is an option for something else, but it doesn't do much?)

Probably a couple others...

I think it would be better to have some of the metalsmith jobs automatic, like 'make coke' or 'make charcoal' and then automatically make enough bronze bars if you order someone to make a bronze cage. Of course, using charcoal or coke would have to be an option to turn on / off somewhere if you have access to magma.

It's pretty much the same for glassmaking. If you tell someone to make raw glass, they should gather sand on their own.

I agree, if you order a smith to make a steel spear, he should go through all the steps to make the iron to make the pig iron, and use the pig iron to make steel, and use the steel to make a spear.

We can dream, though.

This all would definitely have to be toggleable so you could turn it on/off as needed. I can see where things like these would be useful but it's not the sort of thing I'd want going all the time.

It'd definitely let you stuff more jobs onto the manager screen without having you scroll through.

I suppose creatures that are able to would be butched for leather in the process of creating crafts /items, too, so yes it'd definitely have to be a toggle option, otherwise you could end up with no animal population at all.

I agree that such automated jobs would need to be toggled -- perhaps something on the Orders screen to allow you to turn off automated jobs as with auto-tan and auto-butcher?
