Display Pedestals
« on: November 18, 2007, 09:55:00 pm »

There needs to be Display Pedestals. Currently, there's no good way to display your great items. Considering Dwarves are highly material creatures (treasure hoard, anyone?), they'd want to be able to display and admire their works of art.

Armor and Weapon Stands used to be a mediocre way of displaying weapons and armor, but that functionality is gone, and an actual Pedestal is needed.

I wouldn't be surprised if its been mentioned by now in the forums, but reiterating the request isn't a bad thing (Its probably why Rewalling is in .32a)

Seconded!

Could be placed like a statue, giving happy thoughts from both the item(s)*10 and the pedestal, the room would be called "museum" rather than "statue garden", cold be placed in a nobles room and satisfy "item in room" whit the item on the pedestal, could also be placed in some kind of vault and be very useful for AM forts, of coarse linkable by mechanism that activates if the item is removed...

YES. And of course you link up a giant spiked ball to the mechanism, thus resulting in an indiana jones-esqe escape scene for the unfortunate adventurer.

Or just to put up your queen's masterful platinum throne.

Wouldn't mind being able to display crafted items as decoration. All goblin parties would have to walk past the totems made out of their predecessors' skulls (and some kittens') before entering the Trapped Maze o' Doom that separates them from my oh so helpless dwarves.

Yeah, I was considering this too yesterday.  I have a legendary armorer who makes the most kick-ass steel armor sets (20 full plate and 20 full chain so far), many of them masterwork.  I'd love to be able to adorn a few masterwork pieces with platinum and jewels and set them out for dwarves to admire.  Surrounded by fiendish traps!

Once proper shops are added and the economy becomes somewhat sane, this could be used to display items for sale. Also, to add to this idea, mannequins which can be "dressed up" with fancy items, and maybe a weapon or two in its hands, would be awesome.

An extension would be to make buildable suits of armor from full sets of armor that could then be looted by  adventurers. They would appear as statues, with the same effects.
