I've seen them in 27.xx.xx.xx

They're different from goblin towers.  Generally they'll be a series of rings, each one smaller than the one below it, with ramps leading up.  At the top is a little building with a downstair, and then you fight your way to the bottom of the ziggurat, with each level bigger than the one above it.

Is their symbol the same as the goblin tower, or is it the Ruin symbol? I've never played the 3d version until 40d

Also that sounds awesome, I wish Toady would put them in again :P

Time to get started on generating a world that actually has ruins, then :P All the ones I've tried so far have been pretty stable.

Latest 2d ver.

I was lazy so not all the graphics are there, it means some nobles (there were much more nobles, various guild masters and stuff, in 2d) will use placeholders, but the adventure mode is allright.

Some guy reported some problems, probably due to wrong init settings, but if you encounter some errors, write it here on in the appropriate thread and I will fix them ASAP. They won't require world regen.

An important note: finding these ruins in the older version (not sure about later version?) often requires talking to people in towns, otherwise you might not come across one on your own.  Also, I think they were represented on the world map with a mu symbol IIRC, which is how ghost towns are shown in the current version(?).

If you really want a ziggurat, then build one in dwarf mode in an evil biome. Won't be exactly the same, but it will give you more loot(I think).

I played 2d recently and didn't even know about the ziggurats until I randomly found a ruins while walking around on the world map. It'd appeared when I was one or two tiles away, so just wander until one pops up.
I wish in this version, we could find caves that way.

When using the 2d version i immediately get an error about the index file being corrupted or missing.

Did you try a clean un-packing (not overwriting or pasting anywhere) of the version from DFFD by me?
