Detect sneaking creatures and ambushes sooner.
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:12:04 am »

It would be really, really nice if hidden creatures were revealed when it is reasonably impossible to miss them.

Two guards. A large, smooth stone entrance. There is no freakin' way a snatcher can get within ten tiles and not be unmissable. It would also make ambushes a little less deadly to my poor dwarf, Outside mcUnarmed.

Please, Toady.

Sneak detection has already been revamped in the upcoming version:

Quote from: DF Talk 3 transcript
Rainseeker:   Can you have these gremlins be noticed by dwarves if they have skill high enough?
Toady:   Yeah, there's actually a new skill for that. Before spotting a sneaking creature was difficult and you pretty much had to have them in the same square. But now as they're on duty looking out for people more and as they spot people like this they practice their situational awareness which will increase their range and ability to spot little critters.

Does that only work on hostile creatures or all of them? That is, does making your dwarf guard the dining room somehow give him the eyes of a hawk?

Seems kind of silly to have a skill of seeing the obvious. It's not a pillbug, it's a damn man-sized goblin tippy-toeing down the bridge in plain view

I'm pretty sure that it only happens with hostile creatures, if only for performance reasons.  They aren't smart enough to look for pillbugs in the dining room anyway.
