Moody dwarves

I've been playing around with the 2d version of dwarf fort and my dwarves seem to have a penchant for not realizing that I have what they apparently want

2 moody dwarves so far have ignored the presence of items they wanted, pretty sure its the rough gems. Do they want a specific kind of rough gem? Not sure why they won't use the ones I have

Not sure about 2D, but in the 3D version there are a few things that can mess you up.

Dwarves sometimes prefer different types of gems/metal/rock, but I think they will use others if their prefered type isn't available.

However, when Dwarves want cloth, they may want either Silk or Plant Fiber, and will refuse to use the other type.

Also, sometimes they need multiples of the same item.  This can be determined by how long each item description shows when you examine the building with Q.

Other than that, just make sure the stuff is accesible and not forbidden.
