Was Thu Hail...Hello
« on: January 24, 2010, 10:49:45 pm »

Hello I have just started playing dwarf fortress like a few days or so ago. Im not much into video games but when i was searching for stuff about D&D i came across this and started playing it.

I didnt stop playing I would look outside and it was already the next day. I layed down and i heard the music in my ears and i saw green and blue pixels floating around before i fell asleep.

Well since this evil little thing consumed my life I thought i should spend some time here.

I hope everone here has a goo day.

Welcome to the game! You might want to practice some moderation, but it's okay. Everyone binges when they first discover the game.

A new release with tons of new features is out REALLY SOON, so keep checking in over the next few weeks! Hope you have as much fun as we will.

Yes... I can clearly hear the music in my head that I have not heard for many months.

Learn all your stuff before you play the new version when it comes out though, ease the learning there.

Welcome to the forums! Don't let them eat you.

The music is definitely one of my favorites. It's just so perfect...

You don't.  ;D

Also... Learn the word "Fun"

Doesn't mean what most people think.

Welcome

I've got the same problem with hunters, if you want them to survive, activate them for the military, and you can command them around and away from the danger. You can then set them to guard your entrance, crossbows can be insanely powerful.

Fun comes in two forms, fun, which is, just playing, and Fun, which is losing. If you lost dwarves, and want to keep the others away from his corpse(Maybe because there's a giant spider standing next to it), press k and then f on every item to forbid them. Dwarves will not touch forbidden items.
If you want incoming migrants to walk around the danger zone(Because of danger, like a spider), press d, then o for traffic designations, you can then set the area near the spider as restricted, so nobody will go there unless they don't have an other path to their goal. Be careful though, dwarves will often walk as close to the restricted zone as they can, and the spider won't sit in one spot forever.

Good luck, remember that sleep is important, I went 3 days without sleep when I first got this game, in retrospect, it was a bad idea.
