mainly zoom in a bit and regular pencil tool, also, right clicking with the eraser tool gives a useful color substitution functionality, that's what i used to paint the ground below the trees, etc

Nice, in that case I may have a go at making one myself. Faden, i need to see some of your work if you want to make maps ;P

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Okay, here's my map. It has two huts, one in the caveman-mammoth bone style, and one woven out of reeds. There's a clay deposit, a forest, a deer, a yellow berry bush, a river with a crossing, two people, and two fires. Though it's probably not a good idea to leave the fires going unattended...
I draw larger, if this is too small, and I can draw with outlines if it's too hard to see.

Maybe a mountain in the middle with a Lake in the caldera. (Dont let the mountain dominate the map) Tropical forests and a Settlement by the shore?

Is this basic design what you had in mind? Anything you'd like to change or add before I prettify it?
Edit: I forgot to add trees in the caldera! Oops!
