New Civilization; Irfak
« on: December 31, 2009, 04:10:21 pm »

It's my first mod, which I made mainly using the wiki, by examining the other raws, and by experimenting with ideas.
It took me a good two days to make, but I am actually pretty satisfied with the result.

I've got some more ideas for the race, but for now I'd like to post it for the community to try.

The Irfak

The Irfak are a race of highly intelligent crossbreeds between insects and humans. In their evolution they grew four arms, and their eyes ended up on eyestalks. Nonetheless, they ended up strong and smart enough to start their own civilizations.
They hate the cold. Even worse; They hate temperate climates, and they hate drought. You'll find them exclusively in tropical climates (except, perhaps, for the occasional adventurer.)
They are remarkably similar to humans, although they mainly use the inferior metals. Their extra limbs make up for this handicap.
They're carnivores, and they are very strict in ethics. On the other hand; They do not just eat sentient beings, they might even cannibalize.

You could always try to add the [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] token to them. I did, and it was fun.

If you find any bugs or something that just seems out of place, please PM me or post it in a comment.

These are quite nicely fleshed-out. You seem to have made a point of making changes that many modders ignore - changing the auxillary symbol tags for wars and such, for example.

On that note, I find it a bit odd that the Irfak use mythic/mystery/magic tags for everything - this includes things that they'd normally shun such as wars. Was this deliberate, or is using SELECT_SYMBOL:REMAINING more appropriate?

Thank you for notifying me about it.
It was actually a mistake. (You also made me spot that they used 'artifice' and 'earth' symbols. That was a mistake as well.)

Are they a friendly race? or evil, im going to download and find out but if they are insectoid and use lesser metals they sound barbaric and wild like a cute little kobold. They almost sound like my evil race The Urk Dasha large winter creatures with six arms and eyes, four legs, and poisoned tusks that can leave its prey immoblized forever, they use no weapons or armor all hand2hand which is a bit over powered but orks seem to manage killing them anyways. But this sounds cool and im always looking for some to civ to meet and kill/welcome to my fort

They are not evil, but if you'd fling a trader or two into the air it should be enough to start a war.

Using a bridge is one way, yes.
They'll besiege you for any reason that the other races would.

Yes. Just look up 'War' on the wiki if you need ideas.

Hmm...
The wiki suggests that just killing traders is good enough.
I drowned them for years with no result.

Are drowning deaths just not counted?

Not sure. I am sure, though, that they do not count as a normal kill, even if you are the one to push the creature into the water. (By having it try to dodge you.)
Perhaps they need to be killed by a living creature (you didn't protect our merchants, jackass!), or be killed by your guys. (Which you can't do, unless they're already hostile.

Last, but not least, you can force the merchants to give all their goods. In one or two years, they should be pissed enough to come after you.
