A question about the future
« on: January 08, 2010, 05:14:52 pm »

I know that the survival in the wilderness part and healing is going to be updated but how is it likely to become toward version 1? Will adventure mode go towards the style of URW ( http://www.jmp.fi/~smaarane/urw.html )? If not, how different is it likely to be.
Personally I would love to see the survival aspect from URW in adventure mode.

Gotta love the DF forums. A statement like this anywhere else could land you a couple years of counseling.

You basically get the basic jobs of fortress mode, Wood Cutting, Mining, Building, and butchering.

I think gameplay will lean a bit towards Last Winter. (It's a game in it's Beta/Alpha, Okay?)

Is that the survival game where you wake up in the middle of nowhere and you have to try and survive?

Depends on the Scenario, but remember it's in Alpha.

In URW you kind of wake up in the middle of nowhere yes. But you have some influence on where and with what you end up with. And from what I just read about Last Winter it's the exact same thing only with more graphics and in another place and era. (URW is medieval Finland, Last Winter is 17th century America.)

Last Winter: 17th Century, New France. Courer Des Bois style.

Yes I certainly hope adventure mode goes in that direction, I adore survival games.

Check out Stranded 2 if you haven't yet, it's fantastic.

This discussion didn't really go the way I expected. But I like the direction anyway, even if it should have it's own thread.

Try URW, it's better than both Stranded 2 and Last Winter. Also, it costs 2 bucks or something. ;)

In the far future fortress mode and adventure mode will combine.

Listen to Dwarf Talk 6 to gain a nice insight.

Basicly, you will have an identity, you either create a character or pick someone from legends. You can eventually take over towns, but it won't be like fortress mode, you can order them round and they could lie to you. The ambitition of it is amazing. Of course you can just run round the wilderness wrestling bears if you want.

I started this topic about 30 minutes or so into the latest Dwarf Talk. At least before they talked about the adventure mode stuff. If I had listened a bit more I wouldn't have started this topic I guess.
