Turning Off Immigration
« on: January 20, 2010, 01:42:36 pm »

So I've set a challenge for myself, I want to see how long i can survive with just my band of 7 dwarves, and any decendents they might have but with no migrants.

I'd like to avoid the Draft and station somewhere suicidal method of population control.

I'd also still like to be able to trade, making the solution I read about somewhere of living on an island not a really good solution.

Set your population cap to 0 in init.txt.  You may end up with 1 or 2 migrants the first year but those can be easily dispatched  8)

Won't that also affect children?  Or is the child cap calculated separately?

Hey lextori and others

I would love some Immigration controle.  Like, to be able to turn it off.

I have an Idea for Immigration controle, it would be that Immigrants would only go to the marketplace following the caravans during the traiding. Then the Immigrants would apply to become part of the community. If thay would get a negative responce thay would get a bad feeling and have the possibility of doing something in anger. Well, if not, thay will follow the caravan back away when the trade is over.

But the option of turning off the Immigration, but having children to grow population is nice. :)

Child cap is a separate limit.

Setting population cap to zero doesn't stop immigrants.  You'll still get a handful, possibly bringing your population up to 20 before they stop showing up.  So far the only way to get no immigrants at all, ever, is to be on an inaccessible map, but that also stops caravans.
