i don't understand how to release animals i hav either caught or bought from the trade depot from their cages, does anyone know how to do this?

Build the cage on the ground. (Press B, and then press J)

Then you can use Q and mouse over the cage, then press A to assign to that cage. You can assign or unassign creatures from that cage.

Personally, I use one cage, assign all creatures (except hostile caged) to it. Whenever I buy animals or new animals are born, I just stick 'em in that cage for later.

Note that those commands, b, j, q, and a, are all lowercase.  Uppercase will not work.
