Selling cars takes away cash?
« on: December 16, 2009, 10:12:11 pm »

It seems that selling a car to the dealership costs me money. *shrug*

Anyone using the latest copies of the game will have the same problem.  I mentioned it in the stickied thread.

Ah I see. Well in that case we could talk about how ridiculous it is going to be once it works.

All you need is a little security and you're loaded...

I haven't played much beyond this bug, do you get lots of cash from looting too?

It depends. On the worst apartments I've gotten around 10 bucks a floor, hardly worth the effort. Someone's said that cleaning out a top-level apartment, though, can net $8000, and personally I've seen thousands of dollars in goods ($500 jewelry, $200 laptops, etc) in my game.

The most lucrative money-making activity is hacking. If you have about 6 skill >8 hackers you'll be racking in special edition material way faster than you can publish special editions. Each of those handy things (FBI files, memos, etc.) can be sold for $1000 bucks each at the pawn shop.

My most lucrative was gunning through death squads and selling their weapons, but...

Nobody has mentioned raiding the CEO's safe repeatedly. This is, of course, a higher caliber difficulty, especially if guard dogs are as dangerous to thieves as I intend them to be, but the CEO safe can have multiple publishable/sellable specials, multiple $500 loot items, and/or thousands of dollars inside.

By the way, stealing cars is viable again as a money making strategy if you update to 4.01.4, as the selling bug should be fixed.

Yeah. Only problem is, I never ever get a DE, other than once, which I lost in a safehouse raid. And I was doing so good in a game, then the CIA killed me when I mistakenly surrendered. Luckily, my one remaining agent now has 14 rifle. So yeah, the killing will begin. Oh will it begin.

I suspect you've never tried doing many illegal things yet in your game. The second the CCS knows you're "active", they'll come down on you like the hammer of God.

That's entirely intentional, the Deagle is intended to be a totally unique weapon you can get exactly once, with exactly 9 clips, and never any more.

If they end up lynched because they didn't post, oh well. Too bad for them. Maybe they should've tried posting.

Er, can I port my save over to that? That is, can I save my game and copy the save.dat over to 4.01.4 and it'll still work?

Also, I was on my last legs and I tried to sell a car to get some more cash, and now I have quite a bit of negative money... do things still work the same though? I mean, it's not like those NaN bugs where you can buy infinite stuff, right?

If you are playing 4.01.3 right now, yes, it is save compatible.  If not, its not save compatible.

And negative money?  There are fail-safe things implemented to prevent that... so I don't know what happens then....

Negative money shouldn't allow you to buy anything; every check should show you don't have enough to afford it.

Yeah. I savescummed and ported the game to the newest version, but that caused crippling bugs and eventually I got beat up by the CCS, so I just started a new game on the newest version and everything's all right now.
