Will ocean waves make my water salty?
« on: December 20, 2009, 01:44:24 pm »

I'm making a water purification aqueduct, and I noticed that ocean waves on the water go right through constructed walls. Will this make my water salty?

On an Ocean fort ALL water is salty, even rain.

Screw pumps act as a purifier, and the water that comes out will be drinkable so long as it does not touch natural walls, or floors, or other salty water.

so ocean waves will likely make it salty

As a side note, apparently salt water is drinkable via well, just not by any other way.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

That's what the block is for when you build a well.  It's an ion-exchange unit.  :D

So you're saying I could have just tapped the aquifer instead of attempting the monumental task of getting water from the ocean to my fort, that many lives were wasted(albeit amusingly) on all of this effort?

Absolutely.  You can also channel a pond into the aquifer and set a Dwarf to fishing there.
