[40d] Can't use stairs [Solved. GO STUPIDITY!]
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:07:19 pm »

Ahem. Uh.. Hi.

You know how whenever you build a downstair you get a small cleared area that you can use to create an upstair? Yeah well.. That's not happening for me.

I was happily beginning a new fortress, and had already gone down and utilized at least a few levels using stairs before. However, suddenly, I construct a downstair and the game refuses to clear an area for me to use to create an upstair so I can link the two z-levels.

Help? I bet there's a simple solution that I'm too blind to see.

When you dig a downstair, the tile beneath the staircase is revealed.

When you construct a downstair, this does not happen (if I recall correctly).

In either case, the staircase gives access to the tile immediately below it, so you can dig an up staircase there. This doesn't happen on the bottom of the world (15 Z-levels into the ground from the lowest elevation point on your map) but should work everywhere else.

For some reason my mind did not conceive the idea of placing an upstairs DIRECTLY below the downstairs.

I must of hit my head. Regardless, thank you very much.
