Hew the corpse!
« on: October 07, 2007, 12:42:00 am »

Just a quick suggestion for an Adventure Mode feature that I would like : the ability to attack slain opponents as they lay dead. This could have many uses, such as cutting off the head of an enemy to show a quest-giver (as proof of the deed), or ensuring that a powerful magic-based creature will not regenerate, by cutting off each limb and spreading them about the lands.
Perhaps the body parts of certain creatures could be useful to some NPC's, such as Alchemists and Wizards, and quests could be given to obtain these body parts.

Even the base use of such a feature, slicing up a particularly troublesome foe in a rage, would be somewhat entertaining. It would be great for Barbarian-style players, at the least. You could cut out the heart of your enemy and eat it!

This could also be useful when cookery is added, as a cannibal or hunter could cut a corpse into pieces for easy storage and cooking (fried goblin-fingers, anyone?)

Erhm, okay o_O. We can already do this but i see no reason why we cant have targetting of limbs.

Hacking up a corpse is easy to do. But extracting useful food or other materials from say... a deer takes more skill. But i suppose you would have to make do without the workshop.

It would go something like:
Meat/hide -> Butchering skill
Horns/claws -> Bone carving skill (technically an extraction job)
Alchemical items -> Alchemy skill

If you simply wanted to seperate the animal into smaller more portable pieces it would take strength stat and weapon skill.

You must be refering to Butchering in Dwarf Mode, because you can't attack\cut up corpses in Adventure Mode. I've tried  :)
The only attack option is A, which is to target creatures in adjacent squares. This, unfortunately, doesn't count for dead bodies or any other object for that matter.

This absolutely must be in both Adventurer and Fortress modes. I will not be able to sleep easy at night until I can heap the charred skulls of my enemies before the blackened, pillared face of my fortress, forming a grim complement to the vast steel gates menacing with spikes of obsidian and decorated with images of burning, screaming goblins in goblin bone.

Or something like that. Lava doesn't leave skeletons behind, does it? So that example wouldn't actually work. It's still a superb idea.

And filling waterskins with blood.
Or cutting off someones arm, striping the flesh of it and carve the bone into a dagger.

No wait this isn't goblin adventurer thread...

P.S.

Well actually, you can sort of do this in adventure mode.

Just get a strong adventurer and equip him with a high quality mace or hammer.
Then spank enemies, intentionally aiming at nearby walls or trees!

Eventually, one of them will fly into the wall so hard he turns into a heap of limbs and stuff, some of them will even fly a few tiles away from the carnage.

Probably talking about dismembering the bodies of stuff thats already dead.  There were a couple times where a monster killed one of my favorite spearcatchers and I would have liked to remove the rest of the limbs from the body instead of being stuck with the surgical precision of the large-sword-to-neck approach.

Nothing says I hate you like someone coming across you removing an already dead goblin's limbs. I'm sure theres some serial killers in prisons who will agree wholeheartedly.   :D

I'd be pretty cool if not only could you do this to other in Adventure mode, they could do it to you.
Say you injure a goblin, who after a year, recovers and comes after you, kills you, and proceeds to rip you limb from limb.

Or you kill a friend of that goblin (Who knows if they even have friends.)
and the above happens again.
