Quote
An Indian villager burrowed for 14 years with a hammer and chisel to cut a tunnel through a mountain so that his neighbours could reach nearby fields and he could park his truck outside his home.

Holey mountain, Ramchandra Das dug a tunnel 4m wide and 10m long (that's 13 by 33 feet for you non-metric folk) and high enough to let through a truck without even using a pickaxe! I know it's probably offtopic, but this deserves a mention. You try doing somethong like that. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find any pictures of the tunnel, mostly stock photos at newssites). And the man who inspired him dug a bigger tunnel for 22 years.

Technically, Dasharath Manjhi, the other person listed in the article is, but you said "alive", so I guess not.

I don't understand ... a 10m long tunnel through a mountain that everyone had to trek 7 km around.

That doesn't make any sense.

If the mountain were just 10m thick how could it be 7 km around it? This really needs pictures.

It's not 7 km as the crow flies.  Roads over mountains are usually very indirect, with lots of switchbacks.

Still, 10 metres causing a 7km trek... Must've been a really tall mountain or people would've just scaled the bugger.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.
